According to Yonhap News,

The semiconductor consumables test center project, a key part of the "Korean Semiconductor Cluster" in the Gangwon region, is beginning to take shape.

On April 15, Gangwon State announced that it will hold a kickoff meeting for the basic and detailed design of the semiconductor consumables test center on the following day.

The test center, which will be constructed at the Buro General Industrial Complex in Buron-myeon, Wonju-si, will cover two floors with a total floor area of 2,450㎡. It is a national direct project that was selected in a government competition in May last year.

A total of KRW 42.7 billion will be invested, including KRW 15 billion from the central government and KRW 27.7 billion from local funds.

The province plans to complete the basic and detailed design by September this year and will begin construction in November after going through administrative procedures such as building permits and contractor selection.

It is expected to complete the construction in 2027.

Gangwon Techno Park has started equipment installation in 2024, and has operated analysis and performance testing equipment in a temporary facility in the first half of this year.

Once the test center is completed in 2027, it will begin full-scale testing services.

The test center, which will support the performance verification and mass production stage testing of ceramic consumables for domestic semiconductor processing, is expected to become a central hub in the Central Region Semiconductor Mega Cluster, including the province.

Furthermore, it is anticipated to serve as a hub for the development of market-leading core strategic technologies linked to the local industrial ecosystem.

The province is investing a total of KRW 221.2 billion to create a semiconductor industry ecosystem and is pushing forward with nine projects by 2028.
