According to Yonhap News,

On April 24, Gangwon State announced that it will be actively working to establish an ecosystem for the medical semiconductor industry.

To this end, the province has been building a cooperation system with Wonju-si, Yonsei University’s Future Campus, and Intel Korea, a global semiconductor company, since last year.

The key components of the ecosystem include the training of professionals in medical AI semiconductors and the establishment of an AI platform.

The province plans to invest KRW 21.9 billion annually starting from last year until 2028 to establish a medical AI semiconductor professional workforce training center at Yonsei University’s Future Campus.

After establishing the AI semiconductor undergraduate program (with a capacity of 50 students) last year, the province intends to further enhance the quality of education by adding additional programs for majors and workers by 2028.

Furthermore, the province is planning a new initiative called the "Medical Semiconductor Demonstration Platform," which will support the verification of medical semiconductor technologies and products, prototype production, and certification.

An official from Gangwon State said, "We will focus on the development of core technologies and the training of professionals in the medical AI semiconductor field to actively support the attraction of related companies and startups, which will contribute to the revitalization of the local economy through medical service innovation."
