WMIT secured KRW 5.2 bn-worth national project for commercialization of advanced skin treatment device

On June 3rd, the Wonju Medical Industry Institute of Tehnology (WMIT) and regional medical industry companies were selected for the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's Bioindustry Technology Development Project (R&D), securing a total of KRW 5.2 billion in research and development funding.

The project involves regional medical industry companies, hospitals, and testing institutes, such as Medicoson, Wonju Severance Christian Hospital (a key regional hospital), the Korea Testing & Research Institute (KTR), Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, and Turing Bio, among others.

The goal of the project is to develop and commercialize a skin treatment device using AI, to be carried out over five years, starting in 2025.

The project will integrate the development and clinical validation, the processes of licensing and commercialization of personalized skin disease analysis technology using AI, as well as a combined treatment device using high-frequency and ultrasound.

The WMIT aims to enhance the technological competitiveness of regional medical device companies and accelerate their efforts to preoccupy both domestic and international markets in the AI-based convergent treatment device sector, which is a new growth engine in the digital healthcare industry.
