According to Yonhap News,

Chuncheon, Gangwon State, is taking steps to establish a foothold for global bio industry expansion by visiting the United States.

On June 15 (local time), Mayor Yuk Dong-han of Chuncheon-si signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with K-BioX for collaboration during the "K-BioX SUMMIT 7 in Boston" event, held at the Wyndham Boston Beacon Hill.

The city plans to build global bio partnerships through exchanges of human and technological resources related to the bio industry.

This agreement focuses on joint research and development in advanced biotechnologies such as AI healthcare and organoids, supporting the entry of Chuncheon-based bio companies into the U.S. market, promoting the activities of Korean researchers in the U.S., and building a cooperative network through international symposiums and forums.

K-BioX is the largest Korean-American life sciences organization, with many participants from prestigious research institutions such as Stanford and MIT, as well as professionals from domestic and international bio companies and academia.

Based on this agreement, the city plans to accelerate efforts to establish a "Korean version of the Boston Bio Cluster" by expanding bio exhibitions, symposiums, and academic exchanges.

Mayor Yuk presented the vision for Chuncheon's bio industry at the summit venue.

An official from K-BioX stated that "I hope this partnership provides new growth opportunities for both sides and contributes to the development of the global bio industry."

Since being designated as Korea's first pilot bio industry promotion city by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy in 1998, Chuncheon has become a central hub for Gangwon's bio industry, producing numerous KOSDAQ-listed bio companies.

Mayor Yuk will attend "BIO USA," the world’s largest bio exhibition, to be held from June 16 in Boston. He plans to visit nine Chuncheon-based companies participating in the event, offer encouragement, and continue discussions on cooperation with the U.S. bio industry.
