According to Yonhap News,

The Gangwon Climate Tech Form 2025, focused on fostering 'Climate Tech,' the 7th future industry of Gangwon State, was held on June 13th at the Inter-Burgo Hotel in Wonju.

Participants officially declared the vision for fostering 'Climate Tech' as the 7th future industry of Gangwon State and pledged to establish agreements with related institutions.

An in-depth discussion was held on measures for fostering the climate tech industry in Gangwon State.

During the forum, Choi Jae-cheol, Chairman of the Climate Change Center, delivered the keynote speech on "Climate Tech as the Growth Engine of Climate Economy: A Local-Centered Transition," while Yoo Yeon-cheol, Secretary-General of the UN Global Compact Korea, gave a lecture on "Global ESG Trends and Carbon Neutrality After Trump."

Gangwon's Governor Kim Jin-tae remarked, "Climate Tech is the 7th future industry of our province, organically connected with industries such as semiconductors, bio, future vehicles, hydrogen, and food tech. As it is a core industry that integrates and encompasses the six aforementioned future industries, we will do our best to nurture it."

Ahead of the forum, the province presented a plaque of appreciation to former Governor Kim Jin-seon, who led the establishment of the Korea Research Institute on Climate Change.

Korea Research Institute on Climate Change.e, established in 2008 with approval from the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy, is a provincial-affiliated institution and the first research institute specialized in climate change in Korea.

Earlier in March, Gangwon State officially declared Climate Tech as the 7th future industry and is currently constructing a Climate Tech Center in Dongnae-myeon, Chuncheon, with a total project cost of KRW 17.5 billion.

Additionally, a preliminary feasibility study on the commercialization of carbon capture and utilization (CCU) technology, valued at KRW 190 billion, is being conducted under the Ministry of Science and ICT.
