Gangwon State visits Germany and Italy to seek for expansion of its future industries

Gangwon State is set to strengthen its European cooperation network to realize its vision of becoming a "Global City for Future Industries."

On June 24, the province announced that it will visit Saarland, Germany (Essen and Düsseldorf) and South Tyrol, Italy (Bolzano and Bozen) from June 25th to July 3rd.

This visit aims to establish a European cooperation network for Gangwon State and create a foundation for future industries such as biohealth and information technology (IT) in Europe.

The visit has been designed to expand the global economic and industrial territory , as well as to seek strategies for local covernance inssues, such as decentralization, mountain cable cars, among others.

Governor Kim and the delegation will begin their official schedule on June 26th with a business meeting in Saarland, Germany, to foster the biohealth industry.

Following the MOU signing to foster friendly exchange with Saarland, a leader in the German Industrial Revolution, the delegation will discuss cooperation opportunities with the Helmholtz Institute for Pharmaceutical Research Saarland (HIPS) and the European research arm of the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST).

On June 27th, the delegation will move to the Bochum and Essen regions in Germany to explore ways to revitalize former mining areas. At the German Workers Memorial Hall, they will express gratitude for the contributions and sacrifices of the Korean miners who contributed to national development.

On June 28th, during their visit to Düsseldorf, the delegation will have a meeting with the Korean residents in Germany, followed by a "Gangwon Food & Beauty Promotion Event" to support the export market expansion of Gangwon-based food and beauty companies.

Additionally, it will lay the groundwork for enhanced decentralization and its transformation into a global tourist city through meetings in South Tyrol in Italy, a pioneer of decentralization, from June 30th to July 1st.

On June 30th, Gangwon State will share experiences related to decentralization and regional economic development with the South Tyrol government and sign an MOU with global company HTI (High Technology Industries) to promote the environmentally friendly cable car industry.

Governor Kim Jin-tae stated, "This visit, which has been carefully prepared for a long time, is crucial as it reflects the key current issues of Gangwon State. I expect it would greatly help in formulating strategies for the implementation of our core projects."
