Gangwon-do secured the return of the 'CO-Week Academy' to Pyeongchang
On September 8, Gangwon State announced that it has successfully secured the return of the 'CO-Week Academy' to Pyeongchang.
As a result, this event, hosted by the Ministry of Education and organized by the National Research Foundation (NRF) of Korea, will be held again at the Pyeongchang Alpensia Resort next year, following this year’s event.
The program involves 67 universities participating in the Advanced Fields Innovation Convergence University project, offering courses in 18 areas including artificial intelligence (AI), data security, and utilization.
University students nationwide, regardless of their university or major, are free to take courses in any advanced field they choose. Credits can also be earned.
The 5th edition of the event will take place from June 29 to July 3 next year, with approximately 4,000 students from 67 universities across the country participating.
The 4th edition, held from June 30 to July 4 this year, saw a 37% increase in participation, with 3,301 students compared to 2,402 last year. A satisfaction survey also showed a score of 94.8, which was 2.1 points higher than last year’s 92.7.
Pyeongchang Alpensia Resort operates like a university campus, offering not only lectures but also various side events and collaborative programs that provide an experience similar to actual campus life.
Building on the experience and achievements gained from this year’s event, Pyeongchang-gun and the Gangwon Tourism Foundation worked together to successfully secure the return of the event.
According to an analysis by the Korea Tourism Organization's Data Lab, the economic ripple effect from hosting the CO-Week Academy is estimated at about KRW 15.8 billion.
