According to Yonhap News,

On December 10th, Wonju-si signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Samyang Foods, a leading local company, for the establishment of a liquid soup factory.

Under the agreement, Samyang Foods plans to invest KRW 78 billion by the first half of 2027 to build a liquid soup factory on its existing production campus in Usan-dong. This investment is also expected to create 90 new jobs.

A significant portion of Samyang Foods' production capacity, which supports its export growth, is based in Wonju. This investment is expected to position Wonju as a key hub in Samyang Foods' global supply chain and enhance the status of the regional food industry.

Wonju-si plans to provide active administrative support, including prompt processing of permits, as well as financial support, to help ensure the success of the investment and contribute to increasing local tax revenue, job creation, and the revitalization of the regional economy.

This investment, made just eight months after the completion of a palm oil refinery by a group affiliate, Samyang Flourmills, in April, is seen as a follow-up investment in Wonju and a demonstration of Samyang Foods' trust in the region and its commitment to continuous investment.

Wonju-si will work closely with Samyang Foods to solidify this trust and ensure the continuation of further investments.

The city also plans to strengthen the cooperative relationship for sustainable regional investment and mutual growth.

The Samyang Foods Group (now Samyang Roundsquare) has grown into a global food company with cumulative sales of KRW 1.7 trillion by 2025 since the establishment of its first Wonju factory in 1989. Currently, around 1,500 workers are employed across four affiliates in Wonju: Samyang Foods, Samyang Flourmillsn, Samyang Roundus, and Samyang Logistics.

The company has also been engaged in various social contribution activities, such as supporting vulnerable local communities and donating scholarships, firmly establishing itself as a representative local company in Wonju.
