- KOTRA launches “Invest KOREA Supporters 2014” -

- Foreign students plan to visit foreign-invested companies and promote the excellent investment environment of Korea -

Tong Zhu has experience running a Korean drama distribution company in his homeland of China. He decided to study in Korea because he wanted to find out how Korea is able to produce better dramas at lower costs. He enrolled in a 2-year postgraduate course, and his curiosity about Korea has turned into a love for it. Now, he considers himself a future investor in Korea.

Murray and his family’s deep interests in Korea stem from the fact that his grandfather was a veteran of the Korean War. He studies about Korea in graduate school and is still a fan of Korea who wants to know more about the country.

Deng Wen Qing used to work as a part-time kitchen hand while attending a language school in Korea. She was the first foreign student to graduate from Sungkonghoe University at the top of the class, and became a public figure after appearing in KBS 1TV’s Lecture 100°C. Now, once again, Deng wants to use her passion to promote Korea’s strengths.

Thirty-three foreign students from 22 countries have decided to become representatives of Korea. Although the students are from different backgrounds, they share a common goal: to promote Korea worldwide.

Invest KOREA, the national investment promotion agency of Korea, held an orientation for the Friends of Invest KOREA 2014 program at KOTRA headquarters on April 9.

Invest KOREA decided to run the program again this year considering how successfully last year’s program participants promoted Korea’s investment environment both at home and abroad via social media. The organization also aims to nurture future investment representatives of Korea.

For the next five months, the students will visit successful foreign-invested companies in Korea and learn about the country’s investment environment. The first company they will visit is CISCO Korea, which is considered an exemplary model of the shared growth between a foreign-invested company and a domestic hidden champion. The ambassadors will then share their experiences on Invest KOREA’s Facebook page and other social network services to provide an answer to a question companies worldwide are interested in: “Why do global companies invest in Korea?”

The students said that Korea has the talented people that are necessary to pursue sustainable economic development in the 21st century and pledged to promote the country’s excellent workforce and high growth potential to the world.

“We will promote the attractive investment environment that is unique to Korea with the support of the foreign students participating in the Friends of Invest KOREA program,” said Kiwon Han, Commissioner of Invest KOREA.
