Japanese Companies to Hire More Koreans
Date
2015.03.19

According to Yonhap News,

(SEOUL=Yonhap News) The Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) and Japanese companies held a job fair for Korean job seekers on March 12 at City Plaza Osaka in Japan.

Eighteen Japanese companies participated in the job fair, including Hitachi Zosen Corporation, Fuji Techno Industries Corporation, Peach Aviation and Royal Hotel. Two hundred Korean jobseekers attended as well.

"We recently employed three Koreans as part of our policy to hire global talents and they turned out to be very competent and responsible. Therefore, we are planning to hire more Koreans," said an HR staff member at Hitachi Zosen Corporation.

KOTRA analyzed that the low yen has led to the recovery of Japan’s domestic economic conditions and export competitiveness, which enabled Japanese companies to speed up the hiring of foreign workers to expand their overseas business.

The employer to employee ratio of Japanese companies has increased by 40 percent from 0.82 in 2012 to 1.15 in 2014, according to the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare of Japan. Panasonic, EON Retail and UNIQLO recently employed 1,200, 1,000 and 1,050 foreign workers, respectively.

"Thanks to the job fair in Osaka, which is the fourth one this year, about 40 Koreans are now working at large-scale Japanese companies, including Hitachi Zosen Corporation, Kubota Corporation, Kurimoto Ltd. and Swissport Japan Ltd.," said Director Choi Jangsung of KOTRA Osaka Office.
