2016.01.27

(SEJONG=NEWSIS) The Ministry of Trade, Industry & Energy (MOTIE) aims to attract USD 2.5 billion of foreign direct investment from China in 2016. As part of its goal, the Ministry has carried out investment promotion activities in Beijing and Shanghai, China.

The Ministry held the Korea-China Free Trade Agreement (FTA) Investment Cooperation Forum in Beijing for four days starting January 25 to examine the outlook of Korea’s investment environment and find cooperation models between Korea and China.

The forum participants including Director General Kim Young-sam of the Investment Policy Department at MOTIE discussed measures to utilize the bilateral FTA and promote cooperation to attract investment in the high-end consumer goods sector such as food, cultural contents, fashion and cosmetics.

The Ministry held an investor relations (IR) session in Shanghai on January 27 with around 100 potential Chinese investors in the cultural contents, food and medical sectors to attract Chinese investment in Korea by maximizing the bilateral FTA.

The IR event also included sessions to show the trade and investment models capitalizing on the Korea-China FTA, examine the current status and outlook of industries including consumer goods, cultural contents and food related to the Korean Wave and introduce the best cases of investing in Korea.
