Foreign Investors Experience Korean Buddhism at Annual Event Hosted by KOTRA
Date
2017.05.30

Participants of the one-day event at a Buddhist temple had an opportunity to understand the spirit and culture of Korea

With the living environment becoming an increasingly important factor in investment decisions, the event aims to promote Korea's outstanding investment environment through culture

On May 27, KOTRA's exclusive investment promotion arm Invest KOREA invited representatives of foreign-invested companies and foreign correspondents currently residing in Korea to participate in "Get to Know Korea 2017," held at Jinkwansa, a Buddhist temple located at the foot of Mount Bukhan in Seoul. Now in its eighth year, the annual event has strived to help foreign investors form a positive impression of their experience investing and living in Korea.

Attending the event were some 30 executives of foreign-invested companies, including Fuji Xerox Korea's CEO Ueno Yasuaki and Shinhan BNP Paribas AMC's managing director Francois Mouzay, foreign correspondents and their families. After taking a tour of the temple that boasts a long history of over 1,000 years, they learned about Buddhist thought and asceticism, which involves the practice of bowing 108 times. Having tea with the temple's head priest Gye Ho, the participants took time to put down the burdens of the secular world, and reflect upon their inner selves.

Kim Yong Kook, head of Invest KOREA, noted, "cultural events create good opportunities to show foreign investors how tradition and contemporary coexist to create a pleasant environment to live in Korea," adding, "with the living environment being an important factor in investment decisions, the event can hopefully serve as a stepping stone for enhancing Korea's image as an attractive target for foreign investors.
