‘2021 Japan Online Job Fair’ took place on Feb 8
Companies in Japan to hire 144 candidates in 67 separate business sectors

Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA: CEO and President, Kwon Pyung-Oh) hosts a three day ‘2021 Japan Online Job Fair’ from Feb 8, a career expo designed to help young job seekers grab greater opportunities in Japan.

This year, 34 Japanese companies such as Nissan Motor Company, Ltd, or Hitachi Transport System, Ltd, interested in recruitment in Korea are reported to take part in, hire 144 potential candidates to work with in 67 separate business sectors.

The most in-demand job positions are IT engineers (45 personals), followed by highly-skilled professionals competitive in the global markets (44), office management clerks performing general office duties (22) and sales persons (20).

KOTRA, which found a great chance that lies in the midst of a significant wave of digital transformation and global supply chain restructuring accelerated by the COVID-19 recession, planned and organized the fair to help young Koreans seize the opportunity.

Despite the grim outlook which has fueled sharp contraction in investment and employment in Japan, investments in ICT sectors last year have shown a substantial on-year growth rate of 15.8 percent.

A 2020 survey conducted among 1,249 enterprises in Japan reports that approximately 18 percent of the respondents said they’re interested in expanding their global workforce even in a pandemic.

Having set a goal of pooling a wealth of young talents who’ve developed expertise in engineering, KOTRA has formed partnerships with universities across the country.

This year, in particular, Korea University’s Innovation Center for Engineering Education helped the agency share detailed information on job openings and current vacancies in Japan with under/post grad-school students studying engineering throughout the country.

At the fair, nearly 592 candidates have applied thus far. 201 selected applicants who’ve been through resume screening process are allowed to virtually meet with HR representatives for the next interview stage.

A semiconductor manufacturer planning to attend to add three more employees, said “More than half of our sales are coming from overseas markets. We’re looking for young talents full of entrepreneur’s daring spirit.”

KOTRA’s CEO said “We’ll keep working on helping young Koreans get decent jobs in Japan.”
