The '2022 Foreign-invested Company Job Fair for Universities in Busan,' hosted by KOTRA (President & CEO Yu Jeoung-yeol) and sponsored by Busan Metropolitan City (hereinafter Busan), was held in the second exhibition hall at Busan Exhibition and Convention Center (BEXCO) on Sep. 16. The event was held to offer opportunities of hiring talents and of promoting business to foreign-invested firms either located or based in Busan. And there were vibrant job recruitment counseling sessions where personnel managers at foreign-invested firms directly met with job seekers who want to be employed by foreign companies.

A total of 13 companies on the Fortune Global 500 list as well as Forbes' Global 2000 list, including Zara Retail Korea, Renault Korea Motors and Boeing Korea took part in the event. And the number of new hires is estimated to be at around 200. In addition to company introduction and recruitment seminars for job seekers, the companies also ran various programs, including △ one-on-one offline counseling sessions with participating companies and job hunters △ foreign companies' special lectures on finding a position △ job consulting. Also, roughly 300 undergraduates and graduates from 12 universities in Busan - such as Pusan National University, Pukyung National University, and Korea Maritime & Ocean University - also attended the job fair.

Roh Yi-kyeong, a personnel manager at Zara Retail Korea said, "We plan to have a large-scale recruitment before the renewal open of Zara Seomyeon (scheduled on Oct. 21) and Zara Centum City (scheduled on Nov. 11) this fall," adding, "This Foreign-invested Company Job Fair for Universities in Busan helped a lot to hire the best brains."

Busan clinches the No.1 when it comes to the number of foreign-invested firms among non-metropolitan regions. As of Sep. 15, 2022, there are 597 foreign companies with high recruitment demand in Busan.

A city official said, "Notwithstanding the relatively small scale, the event was so encouraging that grievances of non-metropolitan talents regarding difficulties in attaining recruitment information were addressed.

Son Su-deuk, Vice President of KOTRA, stated, "we are aware that employment is the main culprit of the rural youth drain," adding, "KOTRA will continue to help the region to create more quality jobs."
