To discuss cooperation plans for investment promotion targeting municipalities in 10 key industries such as semiconductors and for joint projects.

KOTRA (President Yu Jeong-yeol) invited local government officials to hold the '2023 Industry-specific Investment Promotion Strategy Seminar' at the HQs in Yeomgok-dong on Jan. 12. The seminar was aimed at gathering together Invest KOREA, an institution dedicated to foreign investment promotion, and local governments nationwide to share this year's prospects for investment attraction and discuss cooperation plans to the attraction.

Last year's foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows into Korea exceeded USD 30 billion for the first time. Of them, investment promotions in the non-metropolitan displayed a decent increase in both performance and share compared to the previous year. By leveraging the momentum, the event is expected to be a starting point further to expand investments in areas outside of the metropolitan.

In the meantime, Project Managers (PM) from individual industries delivered presentations at the early morning seminar to brief about the forecast and strategy for the 2023 investment promotion in ten industry sectors: △ICT, △Bio-health, △Semiconductor, △future car, △ Chemicals, △Energy, △Consumer goods, △Logistics, △Regional development, and △Cultural content. The presenters also proposed their analyses on this year's investment attraction environment and opportunity factors by industry, as well as in-depth directions and strategies that municipalities can apply depending on their leading industries.

In the afternoon, an investment cooperation conference was launched. Led by Industry PMs, officials from FEZs investment promotion departments participated in individual consultations. And the participants engage in active debates on current issues over investment promotion projects by municipality as well as directions for the investment promotion and plans for the joint venture.

Notably, Invest KOREA is in a bid to bolster the connection between national investment promotion activities and non-metropolitan investment promotion support by means of actively reflecting what were talked about with local governments on selecting companies for investment promotion this year together with the investment promotion project plans.

Jang Sang-hyun, commissioner of Invest KOREA, said, “Close cooperation with local governments matters significantly for attracting investment to realize balanced national development.”
