KOTRA explores measures to attract investment in the Korean market from global logistic corporations

Busan Newport vanguards efforts to boost the investment momentum for the Northeast Asian logistics hub


KOTRA (President Yu Jeon Yeol), BPA (CEO Kang Joon Suk), BIFEZ (Commissioner Kim Ki Young) jointly hosted 'Global Logistics Investors Roundtable' in Seoul on Mar. 23.

The event was organized to seek investment opportunities from global logistics businesses and upgrade the global reputation of Korea as the Northeast Asian logistics hub while navigating rapid changes in the global logistics industry.

It brought together 9 global leading logistics providers including the world's biggest Danish shipping company A.P. Moller -Mearsk, global German logistics companies DHL Supply Chain and DB Schenker, and Nippon Express.

The Korean Maritime Institute (KMI) begun the roundtable by delivering a speech on 'Establishment of Northeast Logistics Hub', followed by insights on 'Strengths of Busan Port and New Investment Opportunities' provided by BPA and 'Support Plan for Investment Incentives' addressed by BJFEZ.

Today the Busan Port, when combining North Port and New Port, boasts of the world's 7th largest container terminal capacity and the world's 2nd greatest port infrastructures as a transshipment hub port.

The New Port is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and the automatic system, which enhanced its competitiveness edge, With its sufficient water depth at 17-23 meters, the port also offers the best berth sites that can accommodate large size vessels. It is providing a total of 26 berths as of this year, and the number will increase to 60 by 2040.

"Today's roundtable was organized to keep up with the trend of Korea's growing presence among global logistics companies and promote investment opportunities while working with relevant organizations." said Commissioner of invest Korea Kim Tae Hyung who presided over the event. He added, "With Busan at the heart of our efforts, we will be committed to making Korea the Northeast Asian logistic hub by attracting global leading corporations."
