KOTRA Intends to Attract High-Tech Industries through Invest KOREA Summit 2023

Invest KOREA Summit 2023 will be held at BEXCO in Busan on Nov 6-8
Reshaped into the pan-government investment promotion IR... All-out efforts to promote the Busan Expo


Hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) and organized by KOTRA, "Invest KOREA Summit 2023 (IKS)" will be held at BEXCO 2nd Exhibition Center and Nurimaru APEC House in Busan for three days, on November 6-8.

It is Korea's leading "Investment Promotion IR Event," held for the 19th time this year. However, it is the first time that this event will be held in Busan since its inception, in conjunction with the efforts to promote the bid to host the World Expo in Busan. A total of 1,500 foreign investors, local governments, FEZs, domestic anchor companies, and foreign journalists will participate. The event will promote "Bridging the World with Vibrant KOREA" as an investment hub linking Korea's high-tech industries and global investment cooperation from the perspective of supply chain.

▶ Reshaped to pan-government event... Introducing the "Exhibition Concept" for the first time, consists of various events

The event, which was reorganized into a pan-government investment promotion IR, consists of various events such as ▲ MOU Ceremony ▲ Invest KOREA Conference ▲ Local Government Town Hall Meetings ▲ Exhibition & Business Partnering ▲ Start-up Conference ▲ Global Overseas Investment and M&A Deal Seminar▲ Korea-Vietnam Economic Cooperation Forum ▲ Foreign Investment-Companies Recruitment Conference ▲ Foreign Press Conference.

In particular, more than 600 people, including Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, Minister Bang Moon-kyu of MOTIE, as well as government officials, investors, and those from domestic companies and the Korean Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) will participate in the Invest KOREA Conference, scheduled for November 7. ▲ In his keynote speech, CTO Omkaram Nalamasu of Applied Materials, the world's No. 1 global company in semiconductor equipment, will remark under the title of "Accelerating Sustainable Growth through Deep Tech Collaboration." ▲ Kim Jong-seok, Chairman of the Regulatory Reform Committee, "Cases and Efforts for Regulatory Innovation by the Regulatory Reform Committee to Revitalize Foreign Investment," ▲Kim Tae-hyung, Commissioner of Invest KOREA, "Attractive Korea's Investment Environment." In the second session, ▲ CTO Song Jai-hyuk of Samsung Electronics, "Go to Global Powerhouse, Semiconductor," ▲ CEO Jung Yeon-in of Doosan Energy, "Sustainable Energy Investment," while foreign-invested companies such as Renault, Umicore, Lam Research, and Equinor will talk about "Attractiveness and Strength of Korea as an investment destination."

■ For the "Local Era", local governments across the country came together...engaging in competitive investment promotion activities

In addition to Busan, the host city, 15 metropolitan local governments and Free Economic Zone Authority (FEZ) across the country will operate promotional booths, including Jeolla-do, Chungcheong-do, Gyeongsang-do, Ulsan, and Gangwon State, and a "town hall meetings" will also be held in which the head of the local government's investment promotion division introduces the excellent investment environment of their region.

■ All-out efforts to promote the bid to host the World Expo 2023 in Busan

In this event, the "World Expo 2030 Busan" will be operated in collaboration with the Busan Metropolitan Government, while the "K-Culture Zone" will be operated in collaboration with the Korea Tourism Organization. And all-out efforts will be made to promote the bid to host the World Expo in Busan by offering "Busan Expo Site Inspection" for foreign media outlets.

In addition, 19 foreign media outlets, including leading global media companies such as Bloomberg and the New York Times, will attend the "foreign press conference" presided over by Vice Minister Jang Young-jin of MOTIE on November 6. During the conference, there will be introduction of foreign investment promotion and trade policy directions, followed by a question-and-answer session, while also promoting the bid to host the Busan Expo to foreign media.

KOTRA President Yu Jeoung-yeol said, "The fact that cumulative FDI through 3Q hit a record-high even in the uncertainties of the global environment demonstrates Korea's status as a special investment destination," adding, "We will focus on further enhancing the understanding of investors about Korea's high-tech industries and promoting the attractive investment environment through the Invest KOREA Summit."
