Operate a Pavilion to promote Korean companies at Smart Manufacturing Summit

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (Minister Ahn Duk-geun) and KOTRA (President Yu Jeong-yeol) will operate a KOTRA pavilion for Korean companies and arrange meetings between Korean companies and major buyers at Smart Manufacturing Summit to be held at Aichi Sky Expo in Aichi Prefecture, Japan on March 13-15.

This summit, the Japanese version of Global Industrie, an annual large-scale industry fair in France, will be held for the first time in Japan. Under the theme of the Future of Smart and Sustainable Manufacturing of 'Industry 5.0', a total of 239 companies, including 171 Japanese companies such as Toyota and Brother Industries and 68 foreign companies will participate.

In the KOTRA pavilion, six Korean companies with technological prowess available for smart manufacturing, including ▲ production management solution ▲ industrial device and ▲ IoT communication module will participate with their booths. They will explore the possibility of applying their technologies to Japanese manufacturing sites through business meetings with Japanese companies.

Aichi Prefecture, a sponsor of this event, has maintained indisputable No.1 position for 44 years in a row in Japan in terms of shipments of manufactured products. Major industrial clusters such as automobiles and aviation have developed, driven by Toyota. However, it has also faced numerous challenges such as aging facilities and lack of manpower. Companies have been actively pursuing digital transformation, and related markets are also growing. According to the Yano Research Institute, the size of Japan's manufacturing digital transformation market in 2023 is estimated to be about JPY 1.8 trillion, about a 3.4 percent rise year-on-year.

Director Kim Sam-sik of KOTRA's Regional Headquarters in Japan said, "Japan's smart factory industry has been revitalized thanks to active investment in semiconductor and mobility transition in the automotive industry. KOTRA will continue to support the introduction Korea's next-generation technologies combined with DX in Japan's manufacturing sites, where a labor shortage is getting severe".
