"Seoul Food 2024" opened in the largest scale...add momentum in achieving USD 10 bn in food exports

1,605 businesses from 52 countries participate, up 20% from the previous year...a goal of securing export deals worth USD 150 mn

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (Minister Ahn Duk-geun) and KOTRA (President Yu Jeong-yeol) will hold "Seoul Food 2024" at KINTEX 1&2 in Goyang-si on June 11-14.

"Seoul Food 2024", which marks the 42nd anniversary this year, is the largest food industry exhibition in Korea and one of Asia's four largest food exhibitions. This year's event will be participated by 1,605 businesses with 2,969 booths from 52 countries around the world. The number of booths increased more than 15 percent from the previous year, and it is the largest event ever in terms of the number of participating companies.

Furthermore, a total of 52 national halls will be operated, with 10 more nations added from last year. In addition to exchanges of business models among participating companies, visitors are expected to experience global foods. In particular, the Seoul Food selected the European Union (EU) as its guest of honor this year. The EU is planned to showcase its rich agri-food products under the theme of "Colours by Europe", and offer various programs including a European organic food workshop, and a live cooking show.

Meanwhile, 250 buyers from 27 countries are going to visit Korea to have business meetings worth USD 200 million with Korean food companies. With the meetings, it is aimed to sign export contracts worth USD 150 million. Also, K-Food PR center will be run during the event, in order to discover and support another star food exporting companies, following the footsteps of Allgot gimbap, which recently has gained huge popularity in the US since participating in Seoul Food.

Cheong In-kyo, the Minister for Trade, said, "We will fully support to make K-food companies a new driving force in export on the back of the the K-Wave," and added, "We will fully support marketing, retail, logistics and certification so that K-food can play a major role in achieving USD 700 billion in exports this year."

President Yu Jeong-yeol of KOTRA said, "this year's Seoul Food will offer various programs to make sure K-Food continue its popularity with more nations, companies, and buyers participating than last year," adding that "we will spare no resources to make Seoul Food a venue for revitalizing the business activities of the food industry and expanding the sales channels."
