The ‘2025 Australia Job Fair’ was held on August 7 in Sydney and will be held in Melbourne on the 14th.
47 companies, including Korean companies and local Australian firms, are recruiting Korean talent.
KOTRA (President Kang Kyung-sung) hosted the ‘2025 Australia Job Fair’ in Sydney on August 7 to support the employment of Korean youth in Australia. Following Sydney, the fair will be held in Melbourne on the 14th to expand local employment opportunities.
The Sydney job fair, co-hosted with the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Sydney, included 30 companies, such as POSCO, NH Nonghyup, and VATECH, along with Australian companies like Findex and Applejack. Meanwhile, the Melbourne job fair will feature 17 companies, including local firms like Novotel and our Korean companies like COSMAX NBT.
Currently, Australia is maintaining a high benchmark interest rate of 3.85%, leading to a slowdown in investments and a sluggish recovery in private consumption. This weak consumption has reduced corporate hiring capacity, leading to stagnation in the private sector employment market. In fact, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, the unemployment rate in June 2025 stood at 4.3%, an increase compared to the near full employment levels seen in the past one to two years.
Despite these challenging employment conditions, the number of young Koreans wishing to work in Australia continues to grow. As of the 2023-2024 fiscal year, there were 12,700 Koreans holding working holiday visas, an increase of about 3,800 from the previous year. The number of Korean students enrolled in Australian universities also rose to 13,240, an increase of around 840 compared to the previous year.
In response to the growing demand for job seekers, KOTRA has set up programs such as online and offline recruitment interviews, industry-specific one-on-many mentoring, and one-on-one legal consultations at this fair, actively supporting Korean youth wishing to find employment in Australia. Particularly, the scale of the Sydney Job Fair, held on the 7th, was significantly expanded compared to last year to strengthen job opportunities within Australia.
Consul General Choi Yong-jun of the Republic of Korea in Sydney stated, “Australia is a stage where our youth can demonstrate their global capabilities, and we will continue to provide necessary support to expand practical employment opportunities.”
KOTRA’s Southeast Asia and Oceania Regional Director General Koo Bon-kyung emphasized, “Australia is an attractive advanced employment market with the world’s highest minimum wage, and KOTRA will continue to create opportunities to connect Korean youth with quality overseas jobs, including this Australia Job Fair.”
