MOU signed for cooperation in overseas marketing, education, and startup investment attraction
Linked to Gyeonggi's 'Climate Tech 100 Project,' aiming to create Korea's first climate tech unicorn
"Combining KOTRA’s Global Network with the Agency's industry development functions for effective results"
As the climate crisis becomes a central issue for industries, the collaboration to support the global expansion of the climate tech industry is expanding.
The Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA, President Kang Kyung-sung) and the Gyeonggi Environmental Energy Agency (President Kim Hye-ae) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on November 14 at KOTRA’s headquarters to support the global expansion of climate tech.
According to the agreement, the two organizations will cooperate on various initiatives, including supporting the demonstration of new climate tech technologies in Gyeonggi, conducting on-site surveys for overseas exports, and jointly preparing for a training program that will invite overseas buyers to Korea in 2026. They also plan to collaborate on overseas marketing efforts to address regulatory and certification challenges, which are often barriers to market entry, and to effectively convey the technological capabilities of Korean companies to international buyers.
Gyeonggi Province is pushing forward with the ‘Climate Tech 100 Project,’ a three-year initiative starting in 2024, with the goal of creating Korea’s first climate tech unicorn. The collaboration between the Gyeonggi Environmental Energy Agency, the first environmental and energy-specialized institution at the local government level, and KOTRA, which boasts a global network with 131 overseas trade offices, is expected to enhance the support for the globalization of the climate tech industry.
Kim Hye-ae, President of the Gyeonggi Environmental Energy Agency, stated, "This agreement will be a turning point for the domestic climate tech industry to take a leap onto the global stage," and added, "By combining KOTRA’s global network with the agency’s industry development experience, we will lay the foundation for climate tech startups to build global competitiveness."
Kang Kyung-sung, President of KOTRA, emphasized, "The way to solve the global climate crisis in a sustainable manner is in the hands of creative ‘companies.’ KOTRA will spare no effort to assist the global expansion of climate tech companies, which are key to carbon neutrality."
