The Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA; President Kang Kyung-sung) announced that it is strengthening comprehensive activities to promote balanced regional development. The agency plans to expand export support cooperation projects with local governments and focus on attracting investment in strategic industries centered on the "5 Mega-City Regions and 3 Special Zones."
To this end, KOTRA held the "2026 KOTRA Regional Export and Investment Strategy Meeting" at the Daejeon Convention Center on February 4. The meeting, presided over by President Kang Kyung-sung, was attended by key executives from headquarters and the heads of 12 regional headquarters. They discussed measures to enhance export and investment attraction effects for growth engine industries in these Mega-City Regions.
To expand exports for regional companies, KOTRA has decided to dispatch 63 overseas trade delegations this year and promote approximately 150 regional export consultations, promotional exhibitions, and marketing projects tailored to local specialized industries. In cooperation with local governments and related organizations, KOTRA plans to expand export support for regional growth engine industries and identify new promising sectors.
Regarding investment attraction, KOTRA will strengthen domestic and international IR activities in collaboration with its 12 regional headquarters and local governments. Reflecting the demand from regional headquarters, the agency will dispatch overseas investment attraction delegations 35 times, tailored to representative regional industries. Domestically, in cooperation with local governments, KOTRA will conduct promotional activities targeting potential investors by linking with joint promotional events for Free Economic Zones (FEZ) and exhibitions for specialized local industries, such as pharmaceutical and bio-industry expos.
President Kang Kyung-sung plans to visit regional sites personally to listen to the voices of companies, inspect projects, and encourage activities to expand regional exports and investment attraction. Starting with Daejeon on this day, he announced that he would visit 15 KOTRA regional organizations (12 regional headquarters, 2 branches, and 1 office) in succession to meet with export companies in the 5 Mega-City Regions and 3 Special Zones and reflect their on-site feedback in policy.
"I will do my best to drastically increase exports of regional companies by running through the field nationwide and to revitalize the regional economy by expanding foreign investment attraction," said Kang Kyung-sung, President of KOTRA.
