As hydrogen, alongside nuclear power, gains significant attention as a post-coal energy source, K-hydrogen enterprises have embarked on capturing the global market in Europe, a hub for eco-friendly industries.

The Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (hereinafter referred to as KOTRA, President Kang Kyung-sung), together with the Korea Hydrogen Alliance and the Korea Institute of Energy Technology uation and Planning (KETEP), operated a Korean Pavilion featuring nine K-hydrogen enterprises at the World Hydrogen Summit & Exhibition (WHS 2026, hereinafter referred to as WHS)—the world's largest hydrogen industry exhibition—held in Rotterdam, Netherlands, for two days starting from the 20th.

WHS is the world's largest hydrogen industry exhibition. This year, it once again attracted over 10,000 attendees from around 70 countries, serving as a business platform that encompasses the entire global hydrogen ecosystem. A total of 13 national pavilions, including South Korea's, were established at the exhibition venue. This year, 'CCUS World', which covers the overall transition to low-carbon industries, was concurrently held, drawing substantial interest from attendees.
* CCUS World serves as a global business platform for the transition to low-carbon industries. It consists of sessions sharing project roadmaps, case studies, technologies, and policies, alongside hosting conferences and networking events.

At the Korean Pavilion, nine innovative enterprises participated, spanning the entire lifecycle of the hydrogen value chain—from production (green hydrogen production facilities, SOEC, etc.) to storage and transport (liquid hydrogen tanks, compressors, etc.) and utilization (hydrogen vehicles, fuel cells, etc.)—including Hyundai Motor Company and Hanwha Aerospace. Hyundai Motor Company drew the attention of visitors by showcasing its new hydrogen vehicle model and next-generation water electrolysis stack technology.

During the B2B consultation sessions held for two days from the 20th, prominent buyers visited the Korean Pavilion, including TNO, the representative Netherlands Organization for Applied Scientific Research, and Royal HaskoningDHV, a global engineering enterprise.

On the 21st, the second day of the exhibition, an investment attraction seminar for the hydrogen industry was also held in cooperation with the Jeollanam-do Provincial Government and the Ulsan Free Economic Zone Authority (UFEZ) to promote the competitiveness of South Korea's hydrogen ecosystem. Following the conclusion of the exhibition, domestic participating companies will visit HyGear, a Dutch on-site hydrogen production solution enterprise, and the Marine Zero Emission Lab, an institution specializing in marine energy demonstration. Our enterprises plan to explore possibilities for next-generation hydrogen value chain cooperation by directly experiencing trends in hydrogen production, transport, and utilization.

Kim Myung-hee, Executive Vice President for Innovation & Growth Economy at KOTRA, stated, "In the aftermath of conflicts in the Middle East and the climate crisis, the world's transition to post-coal energy sources, such as hydrogen and nuclear power, will accelerate." She added, "We will do our utmost to provide support linked with overseas demand so that our enterprises can preempt the market in the energy efficiency and transition sectors."
