According to Yonhap News,

KOTRA said on January 25th that it held this year’s first event for foreign investment promotion at Hotel New Otani Tokyo, Japan on January 25th.

An official of KOTRA said “this year’s first investment seminar for foreign investors was arranged in Japan in a bid to take ‘new Korean wave’ in Japan as leverage to attract investment and to relieve the anxiety of investors stemming from North Korea’s recent bombing of Yeongpyeong Island.”

He added “the event was especially designed to diversify Japanese investment destination from the components and materials manufacturing to cultural contents, tourism, distribution, and other service industries.”

Digital Media City in Sangam, Seoul suggested cooperation in the cultural contents industry on the back of ‘new Korean wave,’ and Jeju Free International City Development Center proposed Jeju Healthcare Town Project, targeting Japanese demand for medical tourism.

Songdo Smart Valley, the development project for Daebu Island, the distribution complex project in Gwangyang Bay Area Free Economic Zone, etc. were introduced at the event. Also, the President of Yokogawa Electric Korea Co., Ltd. delivered a presentation on its successful investment in Korea, gaining attention from Japanese business people.

President Cho Hwan-Eik of KOTRA said “awareness of Korean products has been raised in Japan recently,” and added “we should seize this opportunity to attract more investment in high value-added service sectors and identify various cooperation areas.”
