IOC Team to Visit PyeongChang over 2018 Olympics Bid

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) plans to conduct an on-site inspection
of a South Korean city seeking to host the 2018 Winter Olympics later this week,
officials said Sunday.
The IOC's 14-member team, led by Sweden's Gunilla Linberg, is scheduled to arrive at Incheon International Airport, west of Seoul, at around 12:40 p.m. on Monday for a week-long stay, they added.
The team will assess PyeongChang's preparations as a candidate venue.
"We have made thorough preparations to the detail so that the evaluation team can get deep impressions from its entry (into South Korea) through its departure," said Cho Yang-ho, head of PyeongChang's bidding committee.
The committee wrapped up its final rehearsals Sunday covering presentations on 17 topics, including PyeongChang's Winter Olympics vision and facilities.
The IOC delegation plans to hold a news conference on Friday, a day ahead of its departure.
This is the third straight bid by PyeongChang, about 180 kilometers east of Seoul, to host the world's biggest winter sports festival. It was beaten by Vancouver, Canada, and Sochi, Russia, in its two previous bids.
PyeongChang is now competing with Annecy, France, and Munich, Germany. The IOC inspected Annecy last week and will send an evaluation team to Munich late this month.
The host city will be decided at the IOC General Assembly in Durban, South Africa, on July 6.
