Luxembourg Foreign Minister Jean Asselborn will visit South Korea next week for talks expected to focus on deepening bilateral cooperation and a free trade agreement between the South and the European Union, Seoul's foreign ministry said Thursday.
Asselborn is scheduled to arrive in Seoul on April 21 and hold talks with South Korean Foreign Minister Kim Sung-hwan the next day, the ministry said in a statement. The talks would also cover security issues on the Korean Peninsula and climate change, it said.
The European Parliament endorsed the free trade deal with South Korea in February, removing the final obstacle for the deal to take effect from July. The deal also awaits approval from South Korea's National Assembly and the ruling Grand National Party wants to pass the deal this month.
It will be the first time in 11 years that a top diplomat from Luxembourg visits South Korea, according to the statement.
