Date
2011.09.22

According to Yonhap News,

Gyeonggi province is setting up strategies to develop Pung Island, Yuk Island, Jebu Island, Gukhwa Island and Ippa Island in the province.

Ryu In-kwon, an official from Gyeonggi province, said on September 20 that the province is working on establishing strategies to develop 5 inhabited islands, which have not only ecological but also leisure and tourism value.

The province requested Gyeonggi Research Institute to study on the natural environment of the 5 inhabited islands earlier this year. Last August, the province made a field investigation to set up development strategies.

The development will turn the islands into a center of marine leisure and tourism.

Gukhwa and Ippa Islands, located in Hwasung city, will be developed into a vacation spot.

Gukhwa Island, a place of exile in the Joseon Dynasty, is a popular sand beach where many people visit during the summer.

It plans to create a lodging village and make a mud flat experience program for vacationers.

In Ippa Island, a colony of pine trees is well preserved.

The province plans to turn the island into a recreational forest by using this natural environment.

Pung Island, the largest island among the five islands, has a beautiful scenery.

The province plans to use the island as the outpost of the marine leisure industry by creating a sailing boat dock, lodging facilities, walking trail, and fishing place.

The province also plans to create a energy-sufficient village by utilizing renewable energy.

Yuk Island will be developed into a center of leisure in link with Pung Island.

Jebu Island, the most famous island among the five, will make the most use of its easy access from cities.

The province aims to develop Jebu island into a sophisticated resting place by restoring the damaged environment.

Under the instruction of Gyeonggi governor Kim Moon-soo, opening of passenger ship courses, construction of water systems, and the expansion of docks are under way.

Gyeonggi province reflects the tourists survey to the establishment of the tourism policy.
