제목 없음 South Korea's exports of information technology (IT) products grew 4.6 percent on-year in September on rising demand from emerging economies, the government said Thursday.

The country shipped US$14.07 billion worth of IT products last month, up from $13.45 billion in the same month last year, according to the Ministry of Knowledge Economy. The figure for September is only $30 million shy of the record $14.1 billion set in October 2010.

The ministry attributed September's increase to growing demand from newly emerging markets.

"By country, exports to the United States and the EU decreased from a year ago but exports to developing countries, such as China and South American countries, continued to grow," it said in a press release.

"Especially, exports to China reached a record high of $6.67 billion, accounting for 49.4 percent of the country's IT exports."

Exports of display panels and semiconductors continued to drop in September but their decrease rates slowed significantly from previous months as Japanese and Taiwanese manufacturers, main competitors of South Korean producers, recently cut their output, the ministry said.

Shipments of display panels dropped 3.7 percent on-year to $2.76 billion, compared with a 21.2 percent drop to $2.52 billion in August. Exports of semiconductors dwindled 3.8 percent to $4.59 billion, compared with a 13.3 percent drop a month earlier.

Exports of system or fabless semiconductors, such as application processors and display drivers, rose 39.1 percent on-year to $2.13 billion.

The country's IT imports rose 6.5 percent on-year to $6.95 billion in September, leaving a $7.11 billion trade surplus for South Korea.
