South Korean handset maker LG Electronics Inc. said Wednesday it plans to release its latest long-term evolution (LTE) smartphone Optimus G through carriers in Canada, Japan and the United States.

The move comes as LG is aiming to regain its presence in the global handset market through the quad-core smartphone, which incorporates some key technologies of LG affiliates.

LG said it plans to roll out the Optimus G via Japan's No. 2 mobile carrier KDDI starting on Nov. 2. The phone is LG's first LTE phone to be released via KDDI.

The KDDI release is set to expand the availability of the Optimus G in the Japanese market in addition to an upcoming release via Japan's top mobile carrier NTT DoCoMo.

LG, meanwhile, said it has started receiving pre-orders for the LTE phone in the U.S. via AT&T. The company plans to officially roll out the phone on Nov. 2 and also make the phone available through Sprint Nextel in mid-November.

The Optimus G is also scheduled to hit the Canadian market next month via the country's three biggest mobile carriers, Rogers, Bell and Telus, according to LG.
