KT Corp., South Korea's No. 2 mobile carrier and top fixed-line operator, said Thursday it has clinched a global award on Wi-Fi services.
The telecom titan was awarded for its innovative service in the Wi-Fi sector at the 2012 Wi-Fi Industry Award hosted by the Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA), KT said in a press release.
KT, which operates the world's largest 200,000 access points for its Wi-Fi service, beat global mobile giants AT&T Inc. and British Telecommunications plc, who were also shortlisted for the award.
The WBA is a global alliance of 95 mobile carriers and IT firms that together represent more than 1 billion subscribers worldwide.
Global IT giants, such as Google Inc. and Verizon Wireless, as well as the country's three mobile carriers are members of the global alliance.
