South Korea's popular animated TV series "Robocar Poli" will be broadcast on a
Japanese network, its production company said Wednesday.
It will be
shown on TV Tokyo, one of Japan's terrestrial television channels, weekend
mornings from April, Roi Visual Co. said.
The children's show about a
super transforming robocar rescue team that saves neighbors in emergencies has
been hugely popular in South Korea since the first episode was aired through EBS
TV in February 2011. It has since aired for two seasons and was exported to
France, Spain and Japan.
Japanese female actress Chiharu Niiyama and
her daughter took part in the Japanese dubbing of the series.
Timed
for the broadcasting of the TV series, character toys of the rescue team will
also go on sale throughout the country from late March, the company
said.
The toys will become available at toy stores, department stores
and online shopping malls, a wide release that is rare for Korean animation
characters.
"The program's advance into the Japanese market is
meaningful in that no Korean animation characters have been seen at the same
time on a major TV network and on the shelves in Japan before," the company said
in a release.
