Incheon to Host First Cell Culture Medium Factory
Date
2013.04.22

A manufacturing plant for cell culture mediums, used for biopharmaceutical development, will open in Incheon for the first time in Korea. Cell culture mediums are base materials required in every step of biopharmaceutical development.

The Incheon Free Economic Zone and Ajinomoto Genexine held a groundbreaking ceremony in Incheon last Wednesday. Ajinomoto Genexine is a joint venture established by Japan’s global company Ajinomoto and Korea’s bio firm Genexine with an investment of KRW 25.7 billion.

The plant is scheduled to be completed in the first half of 2014. Once established, Korea will no longer need to be heavily dependent on cell culture medium imports. Ajinomoto Genexine plans to supply cell culture mediums to Asia as well.
