Date
2013.05.23

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) announced Tuesday that the second round of Korea-Vietnam free trade agreement (FTA) negotiations will take place this week in Hanoi, Vietnam.

Choi Dong-gyu, Director General of FTA Negotiations of MOTIE, will act as Korea’s chief negotiator. Representatives from MOTIE, the Ministry of Strategy and Finance, Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Korea Customs Service will also attend.

The Chief Negotiator of Vietnam is Bui Huy Son, Director-General of the Asia-Pacific Market Department of Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT). Officials from MOIT and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam will also participate in the negotiation.

Korea and Vietnam will hold discussions on products, place of origin, customs, services and investment based on the last round of negotiations.

Vietnam is a member state of The Association of Southeast Asian Nations, with which Korea has an FTA. However, Korea and Vietnam expect stronger economic cooperation between them with a Korea-Vietnam FTA.
