Remote Medical Services Provided in FEZs
Date
2013.05.27

Kim Jae-hong, Vice Minister for Industry and Technology of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE), announced last Wednesday measures to promote free economic zones as a test bed to create a healthcare market where IT, healthcare and tourism industries are converged.

Services such as medical checkups, consultations, training and nutritious diet management will be provided through IT devices. The aim would be to create new markets for remote medical treatment and medical tourism and pursue more time- and cost-effective healthcare.

The Health Management Service Act was proposed to introduce a similar system during the Lee administration; plans were abandoned with the change in government.

MOTIE will revise the Special Act on Designation and Management of Free Economic Zones to reflect the announcement through consultations with related ministries.
