Korea Ranks 2nd in Terms of R&D Spending to GDP Ratio

South Korea came in second among the Organization for Economic Development & Cooperation (OECD) countries in terms of R&D spending to gross domestic product, a report showed on Thursday.

According to the OECD Science, Technology and Industry Scoreboard 2013, South Korea's R&D spending versus its GDP stands at 4.03 percent, trailing Israel's 4.38 percent.

Finland and Japan came in third and fourth, respectively, with 3.78 percent and 3.39 percent, the report showed.

Also, South Korean firms' R&D spending to GDP came in at 3.09 percent, also the second-largest portion after Israel with 3.51 percent, it showed.

South Korea also ranked high in information technology infrastructure, the report showed.

South Korea came in second in terms of Internet connection speed and download speed, right after Denmark. South Korea finished fourth in terms of wireless broadband penetration, it showed.
