Diageo Korea to Expand Investment in Korea
Date
2013.11.22

According to Yonhap News,

(SEOUL = Yonhap News) Diageo Korea Co., the Korean unit of the global liquor company Diageo, announced on Sunday that it will increase its investment in Korea for expansions including an additional production line at its Icheon plant.

Diageo Korea last September built an additional USD 5 billion production line with an annual capacity of 100 million boxes at this plant to produce export goods.

The company is expected to produce 150 million boxes in the 2015 fiscal year.

The additional production line will be used to manufacture Smirnoff-based drinks with lower alcohol content.

Diageo Korea plans to export products to Japan and Southeast Asia and increase its export volume by 130.8 percent, from USD 1.3 million in the 2013 fiscal year to USD 3 million in the 2015 fiscal year.

Diageo has decided to aggressively increase its investment in Korea due to the high quality of goods manufactured here.

Products made at the Icheon plant are currently exported to Japan, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and the Philippines.

The plant has met the needs of demanding consumers in those countries with its quality products and is predicted to gradually increase its production volume.

The Icheon facility received the “Best Plant Award” in 2013 from Diageo headquarters for its outstanding quality and efficiency.

Equipped with solar cooling and heating systems, the plant takes the lead in quality and environment-friendly management.

Diageo Korea plans to promote the Icheon plant as a hub for the Asian export market.

It is the third Johnnie Walker House following those in Shanghai and Beijing and the largest in the world.

“The launch of the Johnnie Walker House and expansion of the production line at the Icheon plant shows the company’s intention to continue aggressive investments in Korea, for it acknowledges that the country is one of the most crucial markets in Asia,” said Cho Kil-soo, managing director of Diageo Korea.

Diageo Korea owns liquor brands including Winsor, Johnnie Walker, Guinness, Baileys and Smirnoff.
