(SEOUL = Newsis) The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) designated 200 parts and materials technologies, including 3D printer materials and independent self-power supply technology for mobile devices, as targets of the first mover-type technology development projects.
The ministry held a professional meeting on December 26 at The•K Seoul Hotel in Seoul and announced the first mover-type strategy for parts and materials technologies.
It features software and contents-oriented approaches and a long-term roadmap until 2025 instead of the traditional hardware-oriented approaches proposed in the “Materials & Components Vision Show 2020” and “3rd development basic initiative for materials & components industry”.
Of all the projects, there are 72 semiconductor and display, 49 automotive, 27 bio, 16 general machinery, 15 shipbuilding, 11 construction, seven petrochemical and three textile projects.
The size of the world market for the 30 percent of the top priority projects is expected to reach USD 1 trillion in 2025.
MOTIE will first promote the selected projects as a “parts and materials technology development project” in 2014 and plans to provide intensive support through its “technology development project of strategic core materials and SW fusion parts for the small and medium enterprises.”
“We will use both first-mover and fast-follower strategies in the parts and materials industry to narrow the trade gap with Japan. The success of the strategy relies on the aggressive and preemptive investments of the private sector,” said a MOTIE official. 123123@newsis.com
