According to Yonhap News,
(SEOUL = Yonhap News) Vietnam Airlines, the national carrier of Vietnam, will launch its new in-flight magazine, “Heritage Korea,” on January 15.
The airlines plans to publish 15,000 copies of the magazine and supply them to all flights between Korea and Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi and Hanoi and Cambodia’s Siem Reap, as well as the departure lounges at major airports nationwide.
The production of the magazine was undertaken by Korean publishing company LIFE PLAZA in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam.
“Heritage Korea,” which aims to introduce the “Korean Wave,” contains information about the culture, traditions, shopping and tourism of Korea and Vietnam, in both Korean and Vietnamese.
The first issue will introduce famous scenic spots of Korea, including Jindo, which is well-known for its traditional Korean songs. The airline plans to publish the magazine quarterly in 2014 and monthly in 2015.
“Vietnam has become the most attractive investment destination for Korea and Vietnamese are interested in and fond of Korea, as many Koreans have entered the local market and the ‘Korean Wave’ gained momentum in this country,” said Ahn Chi-bok, president of LIFE PLAZA, in a telephone interview about the publication of “Heritage Korea.”
“Vietnam Airlines decided to make the magazine with the hope that it will meet the increasing demand for information exchange between the two countries by providing news about the ‘Korean Wave’ on the flight,” he added.
Passengers of Vietnam Airlines are mostly Vietnamese, with Koreans being the second-largest customer group. More than 140,000 Koreans reside in Vietnam.
“The population of Vietnam is about 80 million and consumer spending rose dramatically year-on-year. Korean cell phones, which would cost months of salaries of Vietnamese, are being sold like hotcakes,” said Mr. Ahn.
“Vietnam Airlines was satisfied with the sample of ‘Heritage Korea,’ so we are now under negotiations with the company to supply the magazines to all flights to Southeast Asian regions, including Laos and Myanmar.”
