(SEOUL = Newsis) Ewha Womans University (President: Kim Sun-uk) announced on April 14 that it will join hands with Solvay, the world’s leading chemical company, to collaborate on research and development (R&D) for the next-generation metal air battery.
Under the recent joint agreement, the two parties will carry out joint R&D projects for the next three years, and Solvay will invest EUR 1 million (KRW 1.5 billion) in Ewha Womans University.
Ewha Womans University signed a USD 215 billion industry-academia cooperation agreement with the Belgian chemical company in May of 2011. The university has since focused on attracting Solvay’s R&D center and establishing an R&D relationship.
The university held an opening ceremony on April 2 for the industry-academia cooperation center, which is expected to provide infrastructure for the global R&D network. The new joint agreement will enable both parties to carry out their fourth joint R&D project.
The signing ceremony was attended by Dr. Choy Jin-ho (chair-professor of Ewha Womans University), who is in charge of the next-generation metal air battery development project, and participating researchers including professor Kim Dong-ha and professor Shul Yong-gun (Yonsei University).
