(GYEONGBUK=NEWSIS) President Eric John of Boeing Korea visited North Gyeongsang Province on October 8 and stressed that the activities of the Boeing Avionics Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul Facility (BAMRO) will not be confined to the F-15k project and that the center will become the Asian hub for avionics.
BAMRO appears poised to become an important foundation for growth in North Gyeongsang Province, which strives to promote the avionics industry as a new growth engine.
According to the province, John and Governor Kim Kwan-Yong of North Gyeongsang Province had an in-depth discussion on expanding investment in the BAMRO project and the area’s aerospace industry.
The construction of BAMRO, a 1,063 ㎡ building in Yeongcheon, will be completed by the second quarter of 2015 with an investment of USD 30 million. The center will execute tests and repair on avionics parts and components related to F-15k at Daegu Air Base (K2).
The province hopes John will play a positive role in the development of the province’s aerospace industry.
The government designated Yeongcheon as a potential base for the avionics industry in 2010. As part of a detailed development strategy, the government is engaged in building an avionics test and evaluation center with KRW 37 billion by June of 2017.
In this regard, Yeongcheon is likely to become an aerospace base with investment from companies.
"We hope Boeing and North Gyeongsang Province will strengthen their partnership to grow together. We will spare no effort in offering Boeing administrative support for their investment in the aerospace industry,” said Kim.
