Seoul Holds 7th Round of Working-Level Meetings for Korea-China-Japan FTA

(SEOUL=Yonhap News) The Ministry of Trade, Industry & Energy announced April 12 that it will hold the seventh round of working-level meetings for a free trade agreement (FTA) between Korea, China and Japan April 13 - 17 in Seoul.

To proceed with FTA negotiations, the three countries will discuss core issues, including modalities on bound tariff and the liberalization of services and investment. They will hold 20 working group meetings on subjects including regulations and cooperation.

The first round of the working-level meetings began in November, 2012, adhering to comprehensive FTA principles. The three parties have thus far discussed 20 sectors, including commodities, services, investment, countries of origin, customs, trade remedies, intellectual property rights and the environment.

Based on meeting results, the seventh round of chief delegates’ meetings will be held in Seoul in May.
