(SEOUL=NEWSIS) The government will invest KRW 11 billion (USD 9.8 million) to develop the border areas between regions of Korea in 2016.

The Ministry of Government Administration and Home Affairs announced June 21 that it will invest KRW 6.8 billion in 2016 to strengthen border areas by building more levees and develop multi-purpose agricultural water resources and alternative water resources.

The ministry has invested a total of KRW 40.3 billion in a project to develop border areas in the last five years.

It will also provide KRW 4.4 billion in support for local governments that plan to invest in fruit sorting centers and low temperature storage facilities in border areas to respond to the growing number of fruit growing farms there due to global warming.

By region, it will invest KRW 3 billion in Yanggu-gun, Gangwon Province (2 sorting centers, 3 low temperature storage facilities) and KRW 1.4 billion in Yeoncheon-gun, Gyeonggi Province (1 sorting center, 1 low temperature storage facility).
