S. Korea, Canada ink deal on science cooperation
Date
2015.07.21

According to Yonhap News,

(SEOUL=Yonhap News) South Korea and Canada have signed a pact on promoting partnerships in the science and technology sector, the Foreign Ministry said Monday.

It is the fruit of a 2014 agreement between President Park Geun-hye and Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper to create the framework for closer cooperation between the two countries in that field.

The two sides had held related talks since January to produce the Agreement for Science, Technology and Innovation Cooperation last week.

The accord calls for a "wide range of bilateral cooperation" including the exchange of information on science technology and policy as well as partnerships between colleges, enterprises and research institutes.

A joint committee meeting will be held every two years to review the implementation of the agreement.

Canada is advanced in the basic science field and South Korea is an information-technology powerhouse, the ministry noted, adding a lot of synergy is expected between the two countries on top of their existing free trade agreement.

South Korea has similar science-related agreements with 48 other nations.
