Widely known as the Davos Forum, the WEF announces annually the technology pioneers that drive technological innovation in each sector.

Avellino Laboratory developed a method for swiftly and accurately diagnosing corneal dystrophy.

According to Avellino Laboratory, one out of 870 patients suffers from congenital corneal dystrophy in Korea. When the cornea of such a patient is damaged due to lasik or other eye surgeries, he is unable to fully recover or could even lose his eyesight.

The recently launched Avellino Laboratory universal test diagnoses the five types of corneal dystrophies at once, including avellino corneal dystrophy and granular corneal dystrophy type 1.

Established in 2008, Avellino Laboratory has corporations in Korea, Japan, the United States and China and runs nine laboratories.

"We will become the leading genetic diagnosis technology company in the ophthalmology sector," said Chairman Gene Lee.

"It would be an opportunity to meet with global investors and exchange information with the world’s leading companies," said Lee.

The Davos Forum has selected some of the leading companies as technology pioneers, including Google (2002), Twitter (2010) and Dropbox (2012). Kakao Corporation was selected a technology pioneer in 2015.
