(BUCHEON=Yonhap News) Bucheon City Mayor Kim Man-soo announced March 3 the city’s development plan for the visual culture industrial complex in Bucheon City, Gyeonggi Province.
The first-stage of the development plan includes transforming the 220,300㎡ of land of the visual culture industrial complex (382,700㎡) into a public cultural complex (42,300㎡), commercial complex (76,000㎡) and smart industrial complex (49,000㎡) and establishing public facilities (53,000㎡).
The public cultural complex will house the Korea Manhwa Contents Agency and a global webtoon creative center for around 1,000 webtoonists and 30 relevant companies.
The city will also build a support facility for small- and medium-sized companies and traditional markets to showcase their products.
The smart convergence industrial complex will comprise a cultural technology, characters and movie industry center, visual and broadcasting center and high-tech industry center. Around 140 relevant companies plan to relocate their offices to the complex.
Shinsegae Consortium, selected as the priority negotiator for the project last October, will develop the commercial complex and donate the public facilities to the city.
The city, which aims to complete the construction by December, 2019, expects to create 40,000 new jobs and induce KRW 4.4 trillion worth of production.
