According to Yonhap News,
(SEOUL=Yonhap News) South Korean pop culture and its growing popularity on the global stage had an induced production effect worth about 15.6 trillion won (US$13.5 billion) last year, a report showed Sunday.
The estimated production effect from the Korean wave was up 9.2 percent from a year earlier, according to the report compiled by Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency and Korea Foundation for International Culture Exchange.
The figures were based on its analysis of the impact of Korean pop culture in games, tourism, movies and many other areas.
The gaming industry benefited most with the induced production effect from the Korean wave estimated at 2.72 trillion won, followed by tourism with 2.02 trillion won, the report showed.
The movie industry also basked in the growing popularity of Korean culture, with the estimated production effect more than tripling to 174 billion won from a year earlier.
In gaming, tourism and food and beverage areas, the Korean wave was also estimated to have induced creation of 27,450, 20,987 and 16,731 jobs last year, respectively, according to the data.
