Merck KGaA, Germany-based leading science and technology company, opens a biotech training center next month in Songdo, Incheon, southwest of Seoul. The company has been a major chemical component supplier to Samsung Display Co. and LG Display Co. 

The German company that specializes in healthcare, life science and performance materials, has played a crucial role behind the two South Korean display maker’s growth as the industry leaders by supplying the display materials and earned huge from Korean manufacturers.

Merck is stretching to biopharmaceutical sector to join forces with Korean makers to expand global presence in the field. Through the biotech training center in Songdo, it will help Korean companies in their research & development. Local drug majors - Samsung’s biotech unit Samsung BioLogics Co. and Celltrion Inc., the development of biosimilars - will attend the inauguration ceremony slated for Oct. 6.
