According to Pulse by Maeil Business News Korea, 

South Korea`s biggest shopping festival, “Korea Sale Festa,” will kick off next week, featuring big discounts and various cultural programs and exhibitions, the government said Wednesday.

The event has been arranged by the government and the private sector in order to boost domestic consumption and draw more foreign shoppers.

In line with the bargain sale events, 55 cultural events in major cities and provinces across the country will also take place.

A total of 168 department stores, retail shops, duty free shops and manufacturing companies including Samsung Electronics Co. and LG Electronics Inc. will offer sale promotions during the event. The number of participating companies rose sharply from 92 a year ago.
