(SEJONG=Yonhap News) The Job Fair for Foreign-Invested Companies 2016 was held at COEX, southern Seoul on October 17, 2016.

The two-day fair, hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and organized by the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA), is the largest job fair for foreign firms in Korea.

A total of 92 foreign-invested companies including German-based engineering company Siemens, Japanese auto parts maker Denso, Swedish-Swiss technology firm ABB as well as US-based Costco Wholesale and 3M participated in this year's event.

Around 14,000 job seekers applied for the event and had on-site job interviews with foreign firms. Participating companies will offer jobs to interviewees selected from the event when they have job openings.

In a survey conducted by KOTRA, 77% of foreign-invested firms answered they have plans to hire new employees in the second half of this year.

Half of job opportunities will be entry level positions or interns while 38% of them will be positions requiring work experiences of one to five years, according to the poll.

"Foreign firms generally prefer candidates proficient in foreign languages, but requirements can vary depending on job descriptions," said a HR manger of French-based energy management company Schneider Electric Korea. She added that "we want talents who will devote themselves and make practical contributions to our company rather than those with irrelevant experiences or academic background."
