South Korea is opening up new freeways this year to ready for the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.

According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Thursday, an expressway route opening up in June will connect the 13.6-mile (21.9km) distance from Anyang in southwest of Seoul to Seongnam in southeast and another in the latter half will cover the 44.6-mile distance between east Hongcheon and Yangyang in Gangwon Province.

The new routes could save the 130-minute drive from Seoul to Yangyang, 120 km from Pyeongchang, 40 minutes, and also that much in the usual 135-minute road trip between airports in Incheon and Wonju.

Elsewhere, another express route will be available between the two airports Incheon and Gimpo in Seoul from March and a ring expressway in December around the second largest city of Busan.
